She’d never been the kind of woman who found cars particularly sexy. But having Myles drive hell bent for leather to get her into bed was definitely a thrill.

The front porch of Sweet Dreams B & B was all lit up, so Lindsey used her key for the side entrance. Rather, she pressed it into Myles’s hand and pointed him in the right direction since he was in major “take charge” mode. Once she’d spoken her preferences aloud, she seemed to have lifted some kind of restraint he’d been keeping on himself—a restraint she would have had no clue he’d had in place.

But she couldn’t deny the way his strong touch provided a secret thrill as he tugged her along the garden path to the darkened side entrance closest to her suite.

“There’s a step,” she warned him, remembering stubbing her toe on the flagstones the day before.

Jules had decorated the place in true Victorian style, with lots of décor crammed into every nook of the old inn, including the flourishing gardens. Even now, she could hear the rush of water in the fountain by the door.

“Got it.” He navigated his way easily, finding the slot for the key in the dark and shoving open the wide Dutch doors.

Lindsey stepped in behind him, her eyes adjusting to the low lighting from wrought-iron sconces in the corridor. She didn’t think there were any other guests down on this end of the inn. It really would be a fun place for a hair salon, if Jules were serious about that offer.

The door opened to her suite with a soft creak of the hinges, calling her back to the man and the moment.

“You okay?” Myles remained outside the threshold, waiting for her to cross first.

“A little spike of nerves, I think.” She wanted him. Very. Much.

But she could feel the rush of heat and passion just beneath the surface and wondered if she was ready to let loose like that. She had played it safe for so long.

“We haven’t gone in yet,” he pointed out reasonably. “I can give you a kiss goodnight and—.”

“No.” Her heart pounded hard at the thought of him leaving and the word sort of spontaneously erupted. “It’s just that this is kind of like wading,” she started awkwardly. Then, when his eyebrows lifted, she hastened to explain. “When you know the water is going to feel great but you still hover over the edge before you... take the plunge.”

“There are so many sexual metaphors in there, I can’t decide where to begin with a response.” He seemed to be swallowing a grin. Barely.

Her cheeks warmed. The rest of her, for that matter, felt pretty damn warm too.

“If the shoe fits...” She stepped closer to him.

To the threshold of her room where a massive bed awaited. She could see it through the small living area. The sheets were even turned back and ready.

“The shoe fits all right.” Myles reached for her, pulling her closer and angling his lips along her ear.
